What the Repair Takes
Citrus Park isn't a huge pocket of the service area - 11,164 households, smaller than a lot of the named areas we cover out of Dunedin - but it's a tight, consistent run of houses, and that consistency matters for panel work. Most of this housing went up around 1991, well after the 1979 median for the wider service area, which puts Citrus Park on the newer end of what we handle. That means fewer old one-piece slab doors and a lot more steel sectional doors with factory panel seams every 21 to 24 inches.
A panel job here usually comes down to finding a replacement section that matches the ribbing profile and color of a door that's 30-plus years old. Some of those original runs are long discontinued, so we're either sourcing a close match from a current line or, if the whole door has gone soft with rust and the owner doesn't want a visible patch, pricing a full door swap instead. We tell people straight when a patch panel will look obviously off next to the rest of the door - sometimes the honest answer is replace the whole thing, not just the dented section.
The Symptom
The call we get from this part of the service area is almost always the same shape: a car backed into one bottom panel, or a basketball/trailer hitch dent on a middle section, with the rest of the door still straight and running fine. Because the stock here is newer steel rather than older wood composite, you don't usually see rot pushing through - you see a crease or a bowed panel where the steel skin buckled but the foam core underneath held.
If the dent is on a bottom panel, check whether the bottom seal track is still straight. A bent bottom section can pull the weatherseal channel out of alignment, and that's a separate, cheaper fix than the panel itself. If the damage is on a panel that carries a hinge or a roller bracket, that's the piece to flag when you call - it changes whether this is a one-panel job or whether we're also squaring up hardware that's gone slightly out of line from the impact.
The DIY Question
A single panel on a sectional door is one of the more DIY-friendly garage door repairs that exists
In theory. The section unbolts from its neighbors, the hinges come off, a new section goes in. In practice, the sticking point for Citrus Park houses is almost always finding the right panel - matching a 1991-era profile off a current parts shelf is harder than the bolting-in part.
Where we'd tell you to stop and call
If the damaged panel carries the bottom bracket where the cable attaches, or if it's a top panel near the opener's travel limits. Both of those put you working near a loaded spring system or a powered opener arm, and that's not a place to learn on the job. If it's a clean mid-panel dent with no hardware mounted to it and you've already matched the part, swapping it yourself is reasonable. We just can't promise you a part number over the phone - we usually need a photo or a look at the door in person.
What Is on the Truck
Because we come out of Dunedin, about 16 miles to reach Citrus Park, we load for the job we were told about and carry a working range of sectional panel sizes and bracket hardware for that trip, not a warehouse's worth of every discontinued profile. If your 1991 door used a panel style that's been out of production a while, we may need to order the exact match rather than pull it off the truck same-visit - that's the honest limitation here, not every panel for every era of door rides with us on spec.
What we do carry standard: hinges, rollers, end brackets, and fasteners sized for steel sectional doors from that build era, plus the tools to true up track alignment if the impact knocked a section out of plumb. If a full door replacement turns out to be the better call once we're looking at it, we can quote that on the spot too.
Getting It Booked In
Tell us the panel's position on the door - top, bottom, or one of the middle sections - and whether any hardware (hinge, roller bracket, bottom bracket) is mounted directly to it. That's the detail that tells us whether we're bringing a straightforward swap or planning for hardware realignment too. A photo from straight on, with the garage light on, is the fastest way to get an accurate quote before we make the drive out from Dunedin.
For anything else going on with the door - opener trouble, spring noise, full replacement - the Citrus Park overview page covers the rest of what we handle in this part of the service area.
